7 Days Highlights of Rwanda
Explore the best highlights of Rwanda on a 7-day journey that will take you to one of the oldest and most beautiful rainforests in Africa to the shores of Lake Kivu and incredible encounters with the endangered mountain gorillas in Volcanoes National Park.
Day to day
Day 1: Arrival and City tour
Welcome to Rwanda! On arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be received by our representative (your driver guide) who will transfer you to your chosen accommodation for check in and refreshment.
He will brief you about your tour.
In the afternoon you will explore the city where you will have an opportunity to visit some local markets, and the Caplaki Craft Co-operative where you will find local craftsmen in wooden huts selling crafts.
Day 2: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park
After breakfast you will transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park through the spectacular Rwanda's southwest mountainous sceneries. Nyungwe Forest is home to chimpanzees, monkeys and many birds and butterflies.
Day 3: Chimpanzee tracking
After an early morning breakfast you will head to the park's headquarters in Uwinka where you will be briefed by the park rhead ranger and allocated a tracking group and enter the forest at 8.00AM to search for the chimpanzees. While tracking the chimpanzees you will spot other primate species such as monkeys.
During your time in Nyungwe National Park you will also have an opportunity to cross the canopy walkway, an incredible experience!
Day 4: Transfer to Lake Kivu
On this day after breakfast you will depart from Nyungwe Forest National Park to your nest accomodation which is located on the white sandy shores of Lake Kivu. Her you can relax on the stunning palm fringed beaches, kayak on the calm waters of the lake, take a boat tour to the nearby islands or coffee and banana plantations, hike the sorrounding hills or visit Imbabazi Orphanage.
Day 5: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
After a delicious breakfast, you will transfer from Lake Kivu to Volcanoes National Park, passing through the breathtaking scenery.
On arrival you will be briefed and prepare for the next day's activity.
Day 6: Gorilla Tracking
Gorilla tracking is the biggest highlight of the tour as it brings you closer to the jungle's gentle giants, the mountain gorillas. After and early morning breakfast you will transfer to the park's headquarters where you will be briefed by the park head ranger about the dos and donts during the gorilla tracking activity. You will be allocated the group of gorillas to track and start the trekking. We advise to hire a porter to assist you since sometimes the trek is longer.
When you find the mountain gorillas, you will spend one hour with them taking photos and videos for beautiful memories.
After tracking the mountain gorillas and receiving your certificate, you will drive back to your lodge for lunch.
Evening at leisure
Day 7: Kigali Genocide Memorial and Departure
On this morning after breakfast you will drive back to Kigali, where you will have an opportunity to visit the Genocide Memorial and Education Center which is a permanent memorial of those were killed during the 1994 genocide.
You will then proceed to the airport for your departure back home.
