5 Days Birding in Entebbe and Lake Mburo National Park


This 5 days birding safari takes you through Entebbe, Mabamba swamps and Lake Mburo National Park. The trip gives you opportunities to see the rare shoebill stork, and more hundreds of different bird species.

Day to day

Day 1

After breakfast, you will go birding to the Uganda Wildlife Education Center (UWEC). Expect birds such as the rare Northern Masked Weaver, Golden Backed, northern brown throated grosbeak, flycatchers, red bellied, and many more. Proceed to the Botanical gardens to search for more bird species.

Have a lunch break, relax as you move forward to the evening. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 2

After breakfast you will proceed to Namugabo near Mabamba swamps which harbors the biggest population of Shoebills. Most of the birding is done canoeing. Expect to see species like African water rail, herons, squacco, long toed plover, pygmy goose, yellow billed duck, African jacana among others.

Have a lunch break (packed lunch)​ and go ahead birding as you take an evening in dinner and overnight at your lodge.

Day 3

After early breakfast transfer to Lake Mburo National Park. Briefly stop at the equator monument for a photo moment and proceed to  the national park birding to the entrance of Nshara gate. Alongside several bird species, you will also look out for evasive leopard and other nocturnal species. Proceed to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 4

After breakfast breakfast, embark on a nature walk encountering several species of wetland and savanna species of birds, impalas among others. Return to the lodge for lunch and head for an evening game drive. Expect species such as localised red faced barbet, red headed lovebird, black collared barbet, lead colored flycatcher, among others. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 5

You will have an early morning game drive along the lakeside track, which entails approach to aquatic habitats around Lake Mburo. Expect species such as the White winged warbler, papyrus gonolek, papyrus yellow warbler, shoebill, blue headed coucal, and many others. Return midmorning for breakfast and proceed for a launch cruise in search for papyrus species missed, hippos, crocodiles are also expected.

Set off to Kampala with a stopover in Masaka for lunch before you proceed to Kampala or Entebbe for your flight back home.
