Day to day

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali, Rwanda

Welcome to Kigali! On arrival at Kigali International Airport you will be received n=by our representative (your driver guide) who will drive you to your lodge, check in and brief you about your tour and leave you to have a well deserved rest.

Day 2: Full day City Tour - Kigali Genocide Memorial

Kigali is a clean, peaceful and developing city, nested against scenic hills. The hospitality and order of the city is enjoyed by both the visitors and the locals. Kigali is renowned for its award-winning museums, burgeoning music scene, and some of East Africa's most memorable dining experiences.

The city tour will enable you to explore the Kigali Genocide Memorial Center a memorial to the 1994 genocide victims, Inema Arts Center, the Presidential museum, and Kimironko Market.

Day 3: Visit Nyamata Genocide Memorial and Nyamata Genocide Reconciliation Village

After breakfast, transfer to the Nyamata Genocide Memorial, which is located in the former church 18 miles (30 km) south of Kigali, and commemorates the 1994 genocide which claimed 50,000 lives. When the Rwandan Genocide began in April 1994, manu Tutsi people gathered in churches to escape the violence. About 10,000 people locked themselves into the church, and members of the Hutu-majority government threw grenades into the church through the holes in the wall, and subsequently shot the people who remained inside, or slaughtered them with machetes. To commemorate this horrific event, much of the church has been preserved as it was; bullet holes, blood stains, and piles of clothes and identity cards, which were used to systematically target the Tutsi population, are left as reminders.

After visiting the church you  will visit the Nyamata Reconciliation Village, a 45 house town located in Bugesera. Being home to both the pardoned genocide criminals and the victims of the genocide criminals who live side by  side makes the village extraordinary. Meet the locals and hear their touching stories of survival, healing and forgiveness. After lunch with the community, transfer back to your lodge in Kigali for the evening.

Day 4: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest through Aziz Life Village

After an early morning breakfast, transfer to Aziz community to learn about its role in the community. Aziz Life has grown to include opportunities for entrepreneurs and artisans to expand their businesses globally.

Visit the Rwanda National Museum before proceeding to Nyungwe National Forest to check in your hotel and enjoy the jungle views.

Day 5: LakeCanopy walk and visit Gisakura Tea Factory

On this day, after an early morning breakfast, head out to explore the forest canopy on the walkways which are built high into treetops. After the 3 hour trek, enjoy a picnic lunch in the jungle.

Visit the Gisakura tea estate and factory in the afternoon to learn about local tea production from members of the community. Later return to your lodge for dinner.

Day 6: Waterfall Hike and relaxation

After breakfast, you will hike the Kamiranzovu waterfall, a 4 hour round trip through steep forested slopes and fern-lined ravines. Return to your lodge for lunch and a relaxed afternoon.

Day 7: Chimpanzee tracking and transfer to Gisenyi via Kibuye

The treks to see the chimpanzees makes Nyungwe forest national park popular. Nyungwe Forest National Park is a famous destination with 13 primate species. Starting from your lodge at 4.00 AM you will hike deep into the forest with a guide to find the chimpanzees. When found, visitors are allowed to spend one hour with them as they take photos and videos before returning to the lodge. Keep an eye out for Colobus Monkeys and other primates.

Return to your lodge for late breakfast and transfer to Gisenyi. You will have your lunch in Kibuye and later proceed to your lodge to check in and have a relaxed evening.

Day 8: Kayaking, Paddling and Jet Ski on Lake Kivu

On this day, after an early morning breakfast you will head out onto the water to explore the lake by kayak. This experience enables you to enjoy the views of the surrounding landscape, spot local wildlife and bird species, and see traditional fishing boats out for the day.

Return to your lodge for a relaxing afternoon.

Day 9: Transfer from Lake Kivu to Volcanoes National Park

In the morning after breakfast you will drive through the hilly northern province to reach Volcanoes National Park, check in in your lodge. After lunch, visit Ubyi Iwacu cultural village,  which relies on tourism to support itself. Most of the locals are former poachers who now share their traditional rural culture and livelihoods and educate visitors. You will tour the village with a local, enjoy the local songs, see different traditional dances, prepare a local dish with a family, visit a local healer and the king's palace.

Day 10: A day with the community and visit the Dian Fossey Museum

After breakfast, visit the Gastura Village to spend a day with the local community to see everyday Rwandan life. Learn how to weave local baskets, local dances, and meet village elders and schoolchildren to learn about rural life. Return to your lodge for lunch.

In the afternoon  you will visit the Karisoke Research Center, founded by Dian Fossey to continue her work of protecting the endangered mountain gorillas.

Day 11: Transfer from Volcanoes National Park to Akagera National Park

Int the morning after your breakfast, you will transfer to Akagera National Park headquarters, where you will break for lunch at your lodge. Akagera National Park is comprised of papyrus swamps, savannah plains, and  rolling highlands. In the afternoon you will enjoy a wildlife viewing cruise on Lake Ihema.

Day 12: Transfer to Kigali with en route game drive and departure

On this day after breakfast you will transfer to Kigali with a game drive on the way as you depart Akagera National Park. You will see lions, elephants, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, antelopes on the game drive.

Arrive in Kigali at lunch time and later transfer to Kigali International Airport for your depature.
